Welcome Pre-K

WELCOME
to Pre-Kindergarten at PES

I'm so excited to start this new school year!  This will be the start of my 5th year at Phippsburg ES, and I'm looking forward to establishing educational relationships with our new and returning families.  I have been in Early Childhood Education for over 20 years and every year I am continually amazed at the enthusiasm and curiosity of our youngest students.  Every day will be an adventure in socialization and learning for your child.
Our classroom will include an Educational Technician, Jen Peavey.  Mrs. Peavey will be returning again this year to provide an extra hand in the classroom, she brings with her a wealth of Early Childhood knowledge, creativity and experience.
We hope you will take advantage of the Sneak-A-Peek on August 27th, and then we will see you for DIAL4 screening on the 30th at PES.  Student's first day will be on Tuesday, September 4th, we begin at 8:30 and end at 12 noon.  You are welcome to bring your child down to the classroom, but we will bring them to you in the Main Lobby at noontime.  September 5th will be the first district-wide "Late Start Wednesday" (LSW) and all students will report at 9:25am.  LSW will continue throughout the school year unless you are notified otherwise from the District.
NO BUS service is available for Pre-K students for at least the first week of school, as Bath Bus Service will advise us if there is space on the bus.  Please do not put your Pre-K student on the bus until you hear from us.
Breakfast is available through the Cafeteria for $1.45 and is eaten in the classroom.  We do provide time for a snack around 10:00, which you will provide.  We ask that you limit snack to one or two simple items that your child feels comfortable opening and eating.  There is a list of healthy snack suggestions provided on the RSU1 website.  Water is readily available all morning, and I provide a special water cup for each student that will be kept in the classroom.
Some parents have asked if there is a supply list for Pre-K; everything that your child needs is provided.  A suggestion is a regular sized backpack and snack bag which does make things easier, but is not necessary.  A change of extra clothes is always helpful as Pre-K can get messy, and while I do have some items for accidents, I find it lessens the embarrassment if they have their own things.
We have a room full of materials for your child to use and explore; please do not send toys from home.  They can be kept in a backpack in the hall, but it can be very frustrating if they cannot have access to that item until it's time to leave.
This may seem like a lot of information at one time, but rest assured that we are here to help, and no question is too silly.  We are in this Pre-K experience together, and we will make a great team;)
                                                                      Sincerely,
                                                                      Mrs. (Kate) Brockett
